Yes...they had computer system errors that led to my award not being updated when my husband started new work. Even though I informed them on numerous occasions and was told my award was correct, it turned out it wasn't. They then stopped my tax credits with no notice to reclaim overpayment. Hopefully as the government have ruled this unlawful, I may see some money bacjk as I got in to debt due to not recieving money for so long but I won't hold my breath. Wrongfully claiming is wrong, but when you have tried all you can top ensure your details are correct and it is their fault, they should be more understanding, but I cant see it happening. My M.P was a great help though, make an appointment to see yours. They have a direct line through and will speak to someone who knows what they are talking about, not just the "computer says no" types we get through to. Good Luck x

Yes, i had been getting overpayed on working tax credits for about 10 months, i knew this was happening as i was getting them through work & also through the bank. I contacted hmrc on several occassions but they still keeped paying me, when the end of the tax year came they were trying to take the money back but the could not as every phone call i made was logged & they sent me letters appoligising for the hassle they had given me.

If you know somthing like this is happening make sure you let them know & keep a log for yourself, that way you have prof

has anyone not !!!

I say that somewhat tongue in cheek. They havent messed up mine, but there are so many reports of them messing up. It also seems to be the ones that are most needy that they mess up.

I earn a good salary, but get a small child tax credit for my youngest step-daughter. Our salary band is massive, no changes if my salary virtually doubles. (the entitlement is less than £10 per week). They have never messed up mine.

my eldest step-daughter and b/friend have a small child and an income about a 1/3rd of mine. so they get lots each week and guess what, they overpaid them so that now they are having to live off a pitance while they "claw" it back.

Yes they do it all the time which i dont understand we earn the same money year in year out and they still get it wrong but then want the money back so you end up with lowered payments for months due to something that isnt your fault. they send a form out every single year for you to fill in your income how can the dozy arseholes get it wrong it's all there in front of them

Yes. We have been paying back the last two years, I'm sure we don't owe any more but how can you check or prove it?

Unless you keep a record (which we didn't as we didn't know this could happen)

What a poor set up.
